About Us

Dr. Erna Rijsdijk – Initiator, project leader and researcher, is a lecturer and senior researcher at the Faculty of Military Sciences of the Netherlands Defence Academy. She studied politics, international relations and critical security studies. She is the author of Lost in Srebrenica: Responsibility and Subjectivity in the Reconstructions of a Failed Peacekeeping Mission, VU University, 2012 (PhD thesis). She published widely on Srebrenica and frequently takes part in the public debate on Srebrenica. From 2000-2008 she was the Chair of the Netherlands-Srebrenica foundation. The Dutch volunteers of this NGO supported Bosniac early returnees to Srebrenica  with various small scale projects.  On 11 July 2002 and 2017, on invitation by Politiek Comité Stari Most,  PAX and the BiH Platform of the Netherlands, she held the National Srebrenica commemoration speech in The Hague.

Dr. Guido Snel – Co-organiser and researcher, is a lecturer and senior researcher of European Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam and an affiliate of ACES, the Amsterdam Center for European Studies, and ARTES, the Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies. Much of his academic research in the field of arts and literature focuses on trauma and loss in the aftermath of the Bosnian war. He is a writer of fiction and non-fiction (https://www.singeluitgeverijen.nl/auteur/guido-snel/), and a prolific literary translator of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian into Dutch. Velma Šarić – Research in Bosnia and project advisor, is the founder and director of the Post-Conflict Research Center in Sarajevo. Her organisation won several prestigious international awards in the areas of Peace Education, Creative Multimedia, Conflict Prevention, Post-Conflict Research, Human Rights and Transitional Justice

Iris Sikking – Exhibition advisor, curator, film editor, photo historian and co-editor of Why Exhibit Positions on Exhibiting Photographies, Fw:Books, 2018. Expert on how images operate today, as well as what they do to us when we interact with them.

LKol Erwin Bieri – Coordinator military relations with Dutchbat veterans for the Facing Srebrenica project, is currently Senior National Representative Arms Control (Benelux) and researcher at the Faculty of Military Studies (NLDA). He studied psychology and is involved in veteran research.
